Episode 168: An Unlikely Messiah

When Jesus came as the Christ, as the Messiah, He wasn't recognized by many because they either expected...or wanted someone different. The earthly desire to have freedom from oppression, vengeance on enemies, and earthly power obscured their vision as to what they really needed - salvation from their sinful, hopeless condition. To hijack a phrase - Jesus wasn't the Messiah they wanted, but He was the Messiah they needed.

So the question comes to you...what does the "savior" you're desiring look like to you? If you're desiring a temporary, earthly "salvation" in the guise of money, power, fame, revenge, etc., you're in no better position than the majority of the Jewish people, 2000 years ago. Too often, the "savior" that's preached is one that you configure, that changes your situation and circumstances, but the true Savior, Jesus Christ is one that changes YOU! And this change is not only for the here and now, but for all eternity. The question is, which is more important to you - a temporary, earthly salvation from your current situation, or a permanent, eternal Savior that will change your very being?
