Continuing through our look at the seven churches written to in the book of Revelation, we come to the seventh church, Laodicea. Laodicea, the church that has two almost infamous charges leveled against it by Jesus, Himself - That they are neither hot nor cold, and that Jesus is outside the church, knocking on the door, desiring to come in. Laodicea was apparently a comfortable church. They seemed to have no issues, they weren't necessarily doing the wrong things, but they weren't doing the right things to the best of their ability, and most importantly, they were at a point where they placed more reliance on themselves, and much less on Jesus.
Join Pastor Jason as he once again shows how the church today can, and for some, does emulate the churches written to in Revelation, specifically Laodicea, how this can happen to a church, and what we need to be on guard for.

Continuing in our look at the churches written to in Revelation, we now come to a church that should be a glowing example of what we should all strive for - the church at Philadelphia. This church was maybe not the biggest, the most prominent, the most popular...they appear to be the opposite of what we're told "church" should be today. Jesus; however, saw their deeds, saw their heart, saw their love, and opened the door so that they could go into the world, and the world could come into them. Oh that we would be a church that loves God, loves our brothers and sisters, and loves our neighbors.
Join Pastor Jason as he walks through the letter to the church at Philadelphia, what it means to have your door opened, how we should strive to emulate the love and persistence that this church exhibited.

I think we are all familiar with the booming mega-church in Sardis. No? Unfortunately, no this was never to be. Jesus tells the church at Sardis that although they look like they're alive, they were in fact dead. And the church at Sardis no longer exists today. This is something that you never want to be said about your church, but if your church is preaching something other than God's Word, you have reason to be concerned.
But even in this church, there were a few that hadn't given into the sinful dealings of the church. And the message Jesus gave the church of Sardis was to "be alert". This is a warning we should all take to heart, personally, and corporately. We must be alert. The enemy is prowling, the flesh is weak, the false teachers are convincing...we must be alert.
Join Pastor Jason as he dissects the warning given to the church at Sardis and shows us how we should apply this to our lives and our church as a whole.

Today, Highlawn Baptist Church celebrated her 73rd Anniversary! We decided to take advantage of beautiful end of summer weather and utilize the two main shelters at the Road Side Park in Saint Albans (if you're from around there) for the service...and of course for breaking of bread together! The audio does have some vehicle and wind noise, and some general "challenges" throughout, so please bear with it. Additionally, we've included the full service, including the singing.
To celebrate, Rev. Jimmie Compton, a former long time member turned Reverend, came back to reminisce of the good, some pain in our past, and to ask the question, "Where do we go from here?" All churches have their good times, and all churches have their storms to weather through, but when we keep our eyes focused firmly on Christ, He will lead us through every challenge we face and direct our next steps.
