Episode 140: Grace for Today
Sunday Aug 15, 2021
Sunday Aug 15, 2021
After preaching about our relationship with God as a Christian in various points of our lives over the last few weeks, Pastor Jason felt lead to talk about the position of the Christian in the "here and now". Christians in their daily lives, have been given promises and assurances about who we are and Who God is. This is very important for us to keep in mind, as the daily life can be fraught with difficulty. The next key remembrance beyond the hope for today and the hope for tomorrow, is the Grace we have for today.
Join Pastor Jason as he walks through Romans 8, a wonderful outline of the life of the Christian today.

Episode 139: This Future Hope
Sunday Aug 08, 2021
Sunday Aug 08, 2021
With everything "life" throws at us on a day to day basis, sometimes it feels as if it's all we can do is hang on for the ride...just make it through the day, surely tomorrow will be better. That same idea, with a slightly different twist seems to also be pervasive in the Christian church. Sermons, lectures, seminars, and the like, focus heavily on today - what we should do, what we can do, what we must do, and four easy steps to do it. With the pace of life, it seems that the church has largely forgotten about a hope that is bigger than today.
Join Pastor Jason as he walks us through a look into the future of the Christian life, the goal that we're all pressing toward, the promise that we're given by God in His Holy Word.

Episode 138: This Present Hope
Sunday Aug 01, 2021
Sunday Aug 01, 2021
A staple word in the Christian language is "hope". We hear this word used all the time in many ways. One of the most common uses of this term, this concept of "hope" is the hope of our future with Christ in heaven. This is accurate, and this is worthy of exploration, and discussion, and praise to our Glorious God and Savior! But what sometimes gets lost in the fray, is the fact that we don't just have something to "hope for" at some point in the future, we actually, currently, presently have a hope to hope in...this very minute!
Join Pastor Jason as he explores what the Scriptures have to say about the hope we have today.

Episode 137: Order My Steps
Sunday Jul 25, 2021
Sunday Jul 25, 2021
Once a lost and dying sinner truly repents of his sinful life and expresses his belief in Jesus Christ, the journey is not over. On the contrary, the journey has just begun! Although I'd love to tell you that this journey is smooth sailing on into final glory, that's simply not the case. That is not what we are called to do...coast. The process of sanctification (becoming more and more like our Savior) has now begun. Thankfully we're not left in the dark as to what this means. And we're also not left on our own to walk down this road, as we could never do this on our own.
Join Pastor Jason as he gives us a Biblical "self-diagnosis" that we can use to determine where we are on our individual journey that can also serve as a guide of where we can place reliance on God to mature us in our faith, our attitudes, and our actions, to better represent Him to the world.

Episode 136: Be What You Believe
Sunday Jul 18, 2021
Sunday Jul 18, 2021
One of the wonderful qualities about Christianity is that it's timeless. The Bible (God's Word) has never changed, it has been, is, and will be true forever. The message is simple and complex, the lessons are practical and abstract, it is easy enough for a child to understand and has depths deeper than the most brilliant theologian could ever hope to plumb.
Although Christianity never changes, unfortunately "Christians" do. Surveying the landscape of the world, the number of denominations available seem infinite, the disagreements and debates seem endless.
And that brings us to you...
Do you know what you believe? Do you know why you believe what you believe? Do you practice what you believe because you know it's right, because you stand on the rock of Christ, firm in your convictions? Or, sadly, as many do, are you standing on the shifting sands of what your parents or culture told you to think, are you going through the motions with no idea what those motions mean or why you do them?
Join Pastor Jason as he relays the truth of God's Word with regard to your beliefs. We must be firm, planted, grounded, unmoving in our beliefs, and we can only do that if we know what we believe and why, and then act according to the unshakeable truth of scripture.

Episode 135: Dual Citizenship
Sunday Jul 11, 2021
Sunday Jul 11, 2021
Throughout all of history, the concept of "freedom" has been debated over, fought over, won, and lost. Today there are countries where people are struggling for any freedom they can get, other countries are in a gray area of freedom, and still others are getting very nervous that their freedoms are being lost. As we, in the United States of America celebrate our July 4th, Independence Day holiday, we are among the peoples becoming more and more concerned that our freedoms in general and our religious freedoms specifically are being threatened.
Regardless of that debate, those of us that are truly saved in Christ know that our truth, our foundation is found in God's Word. We may be citizens of a country, but we are also (and more importantly) citizens of Heaven. Our freedom, our liberty, is truly and eternally found in one place - Jesus Christ. Although the human side can be frail, we know that the Born-Again Christian locked in the deepest, darkest dungeon of the most oppressive country run by the most tyrannical ruler is more free than one who is unsaved, living a life of decadence in an earthly paradise. For the unsaved individual, life is imprisonment and enslavement to sin and death, despite what it may appear on the human surface.
Join Pastor Jason as he further reveals what God's Word has to say about the freedom we have in Jesus Christ and the responsibility that comes with that freedom.

Episode 134: Gideon Sunday
Sunday Jul 04, 2021
Sunday Jul 04, 2021
Today Mr. Quinton Jones was the guest speaker at Highlawn. Mr. Jones is a member of The Gideons International, a ministry consisting of, "...Christian business and professional men and their wives dedicated to telling people about Jesus through associating together for service, sharing personal testimony, and by providing Bibles and New Testaments." If you've ever opened a drawer in a hotel and found a Bible, odds are it came from The Gideons. But that sector of their ministry is just one of many The Gideons are involved in.
Listen as Mr. Jones shares his personal experience and shows in the Bible how we should expect God to move in unexpected ways, if we're faithful to the calling to share the Gospel.
If you would like to help support the ministry of The Gideons, you can do this in a variety of ways, a few of which are:
Online directly: https://www.gideons.org/donate
Sending your donation to Highlawn Baptist Church (www.HighlawnBaptistChurch.org for more information) and designating that you'd like your donation to be forwarded to The Gideons International.

Episode 133: The True Strength in Men of Faith
Sunday Jun 27, 2021
Sunday Jun 27, 2021
Strong men create good times.
Good times create weak men.
Weak men create hard times.
Hard times create strong men.
That's how the saying goes, and if we look through history, this saying holds true. You can decide where in that cycle we are as a world, in your own country, in the Christian faith, and personally, but one thing we know is that if it wasn't for Strong Men of Faith, Christianity could look very different. The irony is that if you were to ask these men if they had considered themselves to be strong, I would venture to say that most would say "no", at least, not in their own strength.
Whether you consider yourself to be a strong man of faith, or you have strong men of faith in your life, or you have never encountered someone you would consider to be a strong man of faith, God's Word not only has myriad examples for us, but also has some keys to being a strong man of faith, and promises directly from God for men that are striving to be such.
Join Pastor Jason as he shows us what God has to say about being a strong man of faith.
And as this was our Father's Day message, we at Highlawn Baptist Church would like to wish all fathers out there a very Happy Father's Day! And we exhort you to keep fighting the fight, keep the faith, help and be helped by others, and lean on, and submit totally to God...strive to be a Strong Man of Faith!
