Episode 106: The Joy of the Lord is Our Strength
Sunday Dec 20, 2020
Sunday Dec 20, 2020
Note: Message is preceded by the Third Sunday in Advent - "Joy" - Presented by Nancy House
"Whatever makes you happy..." How many times do we hear (or utter) that phrase? So many people are on a constant quest to find happiness, but is that what we should be searching for? Happiness is a fleeting emotion, that can come and go with the wind; therefore, if we base our status on being "happy", we will always be disappointed.
The Bible talks very little about happiness, but it addresses the concept of "Joy" at length. What is the difference? How do we find, embrace, and hang onto "joy"? What does "joy" even look like? Join Pastor Jason as he relates what the Bible has to say about the third virtue of Advent..."Joy".

Episode 105: The Peace of Heaven
Sunday Dec 13, 2020
Sunday Dec 13, 2020
Note: Message is preceded by the Second Sunday in Advent - "Peace" - Presented by Dan and Emily Erwin
We often speak of the Peace of Heaven, or God's Peace, or we long and earnestly pray for peace in our lives, but is it possible that we have a misconception as to what "Peace" means from a Biblical standpoint?
Join us as Pastor Jason discusses trouble, contradictions, hypocrisy, and conflict and how they are all used to grow peace in the child of God...when the calamity, and God, are understood rightly. Peace can truly be yours, no matter what situation you find yourself in.

Episode 104: A World in Darkness and the Coming of God's Light
Sunday Dec 06, 2020
Sunday Dec 06, 2020
Editor's Note: With some "technical difficulties" and a little hectic start to the day, Pastor Jason took a few moments to express his gratitude and love for those in attendance. Personally, I was in awe at the heartfelt, personal message he had for each and every person there, and I have no doubt that he could continue on for everyone that was watching from home, or couldn't be there for whatever reason. We're very grateful to have a pastor that personally cares for his flock as Pastor Jason does. Thank you!
The message for the day begins at time 9:30 in the podcast if you wish to skip ahead.
Today is the first day of Advent, a day to remember and celebrate "Hope". The world throughout history, and clearly today, is in a desperate scramble to find anything to hope in, or on, or for. The current hope is that with the coming of the new year, 2021, we can leave 2020 behind and a better future awaits. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that this will actually happen. So how do we find hope in a world gone mad?
A Christian's hope does not come from the passage of time, or politicians, or scientists, but rather from God. We have no reason to fear for our God is perfect love and perfect hope. Join Pastor Jason as he shows us from God's Word, the hope that every Christian has...and that everyone not yet saved is searching for.

Episode 103: The Steward and the King
Wednesday Nov 25, 2020
Wednesday Nov 25, 2020
We, at Highlawn Baptist want to wish all in the listening audience a Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving! This episode is being released early, in time for Thanksgiving, as this was Pastor Jason's Thanksgiving message for all of us, and we feel this may shed some much needed perspective on being "thankful".
It goes without saying that for all of us, 2020 has been a very difficult year, in many ways - for some more so than others. The stress, the fears, the anxieties all work against us and clog our mind resulting in the gradual clouding and then eliminating of the presence of God in our lives, no matter the circumstances.
Being brave in the face of fear is all well and good, but bravery is not the counter weight to fear, rather faith is what can truly, eternally battle fear in our lives. So, how do we stay faithful in times of great stress, distress, depression, and so on?
Join Pastor Jason as he brings to light what God's Word has to tell us about staying faithful, and staying thankful, in all times - good or bad.

Episode 102: The Account of Ourselves
Sunday Nov 22, 2020
Sunday Nov 22, 2020
Since nearly the beginning of creation, man has struggled with what to do with "us"...with "me". We have a body, we have thoughts, we have our sense of right or wrong, we are the same, but different than others...what do I do with me? We have made very good choices at times, and very horrible choices at other times.
Isn't it funny that almost everything we acquire today includes an owner's manual? This is the book that the creator uses to relate the important information he feels the user of the item needs to know - the function, the purpose, the do's, the don'ts. Isn't equally funny that we seem to have a habit of not reading the owner's manual, but rather "figuring it out for ourselves"...until we screw things up so badly that we're forced to finally open that book? Do we do the same with our own self? Shouldn't we go back to the owner's manual before we make a complete mess?
What instructions about the correct use, and the incorrect use of our "self" does our creator, God have for us? Join Pastor Jason as he opens our owner's manual, the Word of God, and shows us what God would have us do with our body, our soul, and our spirit.

Episode 101: The Account of Gifts and Talents
Sunday Nov 15, 2020
Sunday Nov 15, 2020
The parable of the talents. Many will attempt to interpret this parable as a straightforward message about using our money wisely, so God will bless us with more money, but that interpretation has missed the point of the parable. Although correct money management is a good thing to do, Jesus had a much more important meaning behind this parable.
Every person has been gifted with certain abilities, strengths, and yes "talents". As with everything that we're blessed with in this life, we are to use what we've been granted to give Glory to God, and spread the Good News. Unfortunately, many feel they have nothing to offer, or are scared to "try", or simply don't care. This is not the intention God has for our use of His blessings.
Join Pastor Jason as he brings us through this well known parable, and helps us understand the deeper meaning that Jesus intends to convey to His children.
