The church is not a place to come, check to make sure your spot in the pew cushion is still there, watch the musical concert, glaze over while the guy up there is droning on about something or other, then going home knowing you were a blessing to God by checking in this morning. No, the church is a place where imperfect people come to learn, participate, fellowship, worship, and overall grow in their sanctification.

All too often, the world seems to believe that in order to come into the church, he or she must clean themselves up, have the right clothes, say the right things, give off the right persona...but until then, they would be stopped at the door. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Although to the unsaved, lest God opens their eyes and lets them see and understand, the message of the Gospel may not make sense, the reality is that everyone is welcome, and not one person inside those walls is remotely close to perfect. We, like all humanity were once dead in our sins, totally reliant on Jesus to bring us to life through salvation that only He can offer. All are welcome...few will come.
Join us as Pastor Jason shows us through Ephesians 2, who we are, who the church is, who the body of Christ is, and why the church is for everyone.

This Sunday is the Sunday that has historically been commemorated by some in the Christian and Catholic faith as the day the Magi visited the Christ Child, known as Epiphany Sunday. Whether you subscribe to this tradition or not, the historical account of the visit of these Magi are very significant to the story of Jesus being recognized as the prophesied King.
But just as the Magi brought three very significant gifts to the Child, we too, as Christians, are to bring our gifts to Him as well. Join Pastor Jason as he relates the account of the Magi, and shows us from the Scriptures the gifts we are to bring to Jesus.

Happy New Year from Highlawn Baptist Church!
Every year, on the first Sunday, Highlawn reviews the Covenant of the church as a congregation. This is not done as a loyalty pledge, or some other nonsense, this is done to remind us of who we are, why we exist, more importantly Who God is, and what is our mission for God. The podcast today starts right after the Covenant was read.
Today, Pastor Jason expands on what a church is, the mission, the purpose, and what components are necessary in order to call a group of people - a church. Join us as Pastor Jason outlines the importance of the church in the world today and always.

We at Highlawn Baptist Church would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas! How wonderful is it to have the freedom to celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus the Christ!
Today, Pastor Jason highlighted the fact that Jesus was and is the prophesied Emmanuel - God With Us! What does it say about the love of God, our Creator, to humble Himself and come to earth as a baby, to be born in a lowly stable, to live as the simple son of a carpenter, in order to offer Himself as the sacrifice that allows us the opportunity to join Him in Heaven for all of eternity?
If you have not yet come to Jesus in a spirit of humble repentance, and professed your belief in all that He is, asking Him to regenerate you, so you may be born again, today could and should be that day.

Today's message was preceded by the presentation of the Fourth Day of Advent - Love. This was presented by Mark Drake and Brady Patterson, with the lighting of the Love candle.
The world is done a disservice by the English language when it comes to the word "love". That one word can mean so many things. But when talking about Godly, Christian, self-sacrificial love...how do we do that? The human is by sinful nature a self-absorbed creature on it's best day. God desires so much better for us, and Jesus was sent and was and is our example of how to move from a human definition of love to a Christ centered love - love for God with all we are, love for our fellow Christians, and love for all image bearers of God.
Join Pastor Jason as he shows us true love, as defined by our Savior...the one Who showed us ultimate love.

Today's message was preceded by the presentation of the Third Day of Advent - Joy. This was presented by Sharon Layne and Larry Nelson, with the lighting of the Joy candle.
In the world today, we find a lot of people crying out that they just want to be happy! And although there is nothing wrong with happiness, this too is a blessing from God, what the world needs more than ever is Joy. Joy and happiness can and often do, coexist, but Joy is unaffected by the day to day trials of life surface emotions. Joy is something deeper, more profound, more concrete...and joy, true joy, has only one source.
